Haven’t got very far yet – p. 53 in a three volume trilogy – but beautifully written and wickedly observed, set in the imaginary town of Tilling, which was really Rye, now in East Sussex. “Mallards”, the home of Miss Mapp—and subsequently Lucia—was based on Lamb House in Rye. The house had previously been the residence of Henry James and had a garden room overlooking the street.
