I read the Guardian as a paying subscriber. But it has to be said, by me anyway, that there s so little in it of any real value that it is doubtful whether I and others are getting value for money. The problem is, where DO you get information from,and reliable information at that, if you ditch the conventional sources ? The BBC, which in my youth we thought of as THE information source as distinct from propaganda sources in German and Italy for example began to have its reputation diminished after the war when we began to be told what the BBC had put out, or not put out, as part of the war effort. Nowadays it is criticised, not without reason, up down and sideways for being allegedly partial to one political party or another, or allowing itself to be dictated to by the Government of the day. If we abandon the old, conventional, sources, to where do we turn ? I find that I get more insight and information from sources such as The Byline Times, The Lead, the Good Law Project, Open Britain, and others. But these all rely on the internet for their means of distribution, so one fell swoop by the Government or a foreign power and there would be no communications at all. I had hoped that Social Media might be a way forward, but having been on Twitter for sometime, and latterly Mastodon I realise it is just a refuge for cranks, people who like throwing stones and green houses because they like the sound of breaking glass, and active disinformation groups from inside the country and without. So I have dumped my memberships of both and it has proved to be something of a relief.
Today’s news includes the arrest and release (no charges were specified so far as I know) of the Treasurer of the Scottish National Party aka the ‘SNP’. The other parties, tiny minorities in Scotland are all saying that this is the end for SNP ‘domination’, but speaking as a paid up member thereof what I want is to see a proper investigation to all these claims. And as the days go by there seems to be, on my reading, a definite anti SNP and an equal anti devolution campaign afoot.
