The Big Throw Out . . .

Way back in 2020 – March 16th to be exact – we began self isolation or social distancing and in many ways we have never stopped. One of the things we did was to quarantine incoming mail, and a lot of stuff like bank statements I just annotated as such on the envelope, took them upstairs to my so called “office” and put them on the table which passes for a desk. Now, two years, 9 months and two days later they are nearly cleared up. We have visitors coming on the 27th December, the cleaning ladies will be here, hopefully, on the 21st and we shall employ them on cleaning the visitors’ room which you have already met – viz, my so called office. We have a couple of folding beds up there and they need to be unfolded and made up ready for use. I have been shredding paper, bags and bags of it, filing where appropriate and junking the rest into either the paper bin or the non – recyclable bin. The job isn’t finished yet and each day when I do some sorting up there I wear myself out very quickly, which doesn’t take long at my age. But, there are definitely signs of progress and with a bit of luck and a following wind by the time our cleaners get here they might actually be able to do something.

The thing which now becomes obvious as I look through my old filing cabinet is how much stuff there is there which is long, long, past its sell be date so I think my throwing out activities will last as long as I can keep them up. After that, it will be up to the poor old executors !
