Yesterday after much confusion, which turned to be caused by stupidity on my part, and after assistance from the good people at Heart Internet, I found out how to manage CPanel Hosting. To get into “Admin” you – guess what ? – click on “Admin”. To be fair to myself, the word is in a black box and looks to me like a page label and not like a URL. So, I now know how to set up mail boxes under strandlife.org. I am slowly climbing up the new learning curve.
In other news, the Covid Delta variant is on the rampage in our part of the world . . .
Scottish Government figures published on Thursday show there were 4,234 positive tests over the past 24 hours.
Six deaths of Covid patients were also registered, meaning the death toll under this daily measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – now stands at 7,722.
It is the third time this week that the record for positive cases over 24 hours has been broken.
The daily test positivity rate on Thursday is 10.5%, up from 9.8% the previous day.
When this Covid outbreak began I read up about viruses in Wikipedia. There I read as follows . . .
Viruses undergo genetic change by several mechanisms. These include a process called antigenic drift where individual bases in the DNA or RNA mutate to other bases. Most of these point mutations are “silent”—they do not change the protein that the gene encodes—but others can confer evolutionary advantages such as resistance to antiviral drugs. Antigenic shift occurs when there is a major change in the genome of the virus. This can be a result of recombination or reassortment. When this happens with influenza viruses, pandemics might result.
This led me, some time ago, to predict on Twitter, that those people and media outlets that spoke so often about “beating the virus” or the end of the pandemic, were being over optimistic, and were in fact spreading false information and raising people’s hopes unduly. There seemed to be, and still seems to be, a great reluctance to face the truth about this pandemic and its likely length and consequences which I suspect derives from fear, fear within the information publishers themselves and fear of what the public reaction might be. Personally, I think that the public would take it in patiently provided they felt that everything was being done to combat the disease, and that they could trust the UK Government – who are the highest authority we have. Experience so far leads one to believe the senior people in the NHS, but to distrust the UK Government and its adherents, and now that that has happened we see people making their own decisions and causing the Covid Delta variant to run amok.
I must add here that the devolved Government in Scotland under Mrs. Nicola Sturgeon, is just the opposite, and one feels confidence in them, and I applaud the patient persistence of Mrs. Stutgeon in giving her detailed and helpful Covid briefings on the television and social media.
On a totally different tack, the Hermes lad has just delivered a parcel from Chums and I watched him enter all the details into his phone. His thumbs (how do they do that) were a blur, he took his photo of the delivered parcel on its chair outside the front door, leapt beck into his car, and reverse out of our cul-de-sac like greased lightning.
