Carlingwark Loch at Castle Douglas – the photographer’s name is clearly shown. It maybe that endless pictures of frozen scenes are boring, but this is the first “proper” winter we have had for many years, and the sights we are seeing, common in my youth – indeed, expected, in my youth – are now much rarer and thus all the more worth preserving in a small way.

Where is it ?
A reminder from John Ruskin, . . .
“There is no wealth but life. Life, including all its powers of love, of joy, and of admiration. That country is the richest which nourishes the greatest numbers of noble and happy human beings; that man is richest, who, having perfected the functions of his own life to the utmost, has also the widest helpful influence, both personal, and by means of his possessions, over the lives of others.”
From “Unto this Last”, 1860.
