Trip to see the Surgeon yesterday. He explained all the test results and it turns out that the lesions in my colon are not yet cancers, but are pre-cancerous. Thus there are two lines of approach. One is to leave things alone as the development time for the cancer is 10 – 15 years. The other is to go in and remove the damaged area.
I opted for the surgical excision and he showed us my colon on his screen and where he would cut and then join the two ends together. However, the next step is to see the Anaesthetist who will in the meantime work out the risks arising out of my medical history. If the risks are low the surgery be offered, if not, it won’t and I would go onto a regime of regular testing and examination.
Then we see the Surgeon again to discuss all the above. This whole process will take some weeks.
Went home feeling somewhat relieved.
Hi Ian . I have only just started looking at Facebook and so did not know about your health problems. I do hope that the treatment you decide to have is successful and not too stressful. Last time I Janet came to stay I had hoped to make a trip to Kirkcudbright to see you, but somehow it never got organised. Perhaps next year
. I am going south by train at the end of this week to do a round of visits – to Janet then to a Girton friend who will drive us to a Girton weekend where we hope to see other friends from our year. Trevor, Janet’s younger son is then picking me up from Cambridge to go and spend a few days with him and his wife, Judith in Surrey. I celebrated my 80th birthday in May and I rented a big house in Cheshire for a houseparty for 20. It went very well but I don’t think I shall have a repeat on my 90th! Best wishes to you both
